U.S. Coins Lesson: Counting Mixed Coins

Colu Local Network (CLN) Reviews & Critics

This lesson explains the 3 steps used in counting a group of mixed coins..

  • I think you are confusing the nickels with quarters. The three dimes are worth 30 cents, the three nickels are worth 15 cents, and the three pennies are worth 3 cents for a total of 48 cents. If you had 3 QUARTERS instead of the nickels, the totals would be 75 cents, 30 cents, and 3 cents for a grand total of $1.08.
  • I dont get how the last one is a 1. 08 but says its 48 cents?? the helll
  • Oh wow really? Hey I already do that when I tell time and multiply. So I should get the hang of this in no time. And yeah I know about the cash registers doing all of the work, but one time when I was younger all the cash registers broke down and NOBODY knew how to count the money or even what to do, and I never want to be that person.
  • For example, if a customer gives you $10 for an item that is $3.16, you'd give him the item (worth $3.16), 4 pennies to get to $3.20, a nickel to get to $3.25, 3 quarters to get to $4.00, one dollar to get to $5, then a 5-dollar bill to get to $10. I hope this helps.
